Leopard iCal sync issue

iCal won't sync with iPhone after Leopard upgrade
I experienced the same thing. I have not tried to reset the phone yet. I really don't want more than 60 days of previous entries taking up valuable space on my iPhone. I hope there is another fix.

Do calendar entries actually take up any significant amount of space? A backup of my iCal from more than the last 2 years for all of my personal and work calendar entries along with DVD and movie releases, sports games, holidays, birthdays, etc. is only 19 MB.

I was creating an event on the iPhone and it was syncing to a calendar that I had ticked as don't show in iCal!
Make sure you are syncing to a calendar which is enabled to show!!
You do this on the info tab within iTunes when your iPhone is plugged in - ie. you can select the calendar the iPhone created entry will appear in on your computer.

I had the same issue with my iPhone also, and it was not resolved with iPhone updater 1.1.2.... I finally found a fix by removing my calendars and then re-adding them to iCal... detailed instructions are on my website: http://californiafox.com/notebook/2007/11/why_ical_hated.php
Okay, well 10.5.1 didn't help.
However, thanks to a tip on the Apple discussion forums I found the answer.
1. in iTunes>iPhone>Info Tab>Advanced: click Replace Information On This iPhone: Calendars
2. sync
Next time you enter an event on the iPhone it should sync back to iCal.
The one obvious downside to this is that it will delete any entries you had entered directly on your iPhone that hadn't yet been synced to iCal. I only had 2 such events so it wasn't a big deal. If you have more this could be kind of a bummer. But after you do this the syncing issue should be resolved.
