I have an old 12" pb 1.5 ghz with 1.25gig ram. I was thinking about putting leopard on it, but i'm afraid that tiger would run faster on it. Does anyone have a 12" with leopard? Does it run well? Is it faster or slower than tiger was? Thanks.

It runs MUCH better with Leopard that Tiger. I have the exact same PB.
I don't know if the video drivers were updated or something else but the screen looks much better to me as well. No as washed out.

Freyqq,

Thanks for asking the question. I just upgraded my HD to 7200 and max'd the ram thinking Tiger was as far as I dare go. This is good news:D:D:D:D

Thanks Guys & Gals

I'm very curious to hear about Leopard running on a 12" PowerBook with 867MHz. I'm looking to buy one, and want to know just how worth it the extra 133MHz and 40 dollars of a 1GHz model is as far as Leopard performance goes. I'd be maxing the RAM as soon as possible.

I think that that is awsome that you can get SO much longevity from a Mac computer. Windows gives you maybe what? A year?

that isn't really a fair statement. I have a 5 y/o P4 system that works fine in xp. In fact, it is much faster than the 12" pb I own as well (2 years old).

As much as I hate windows and would love to bash it, this really isn't true. You can use windows machines for quite some time, depending on what you use them for and how good a machine you get. When you cant get a up to date windows for it anymore you can stick linux on there and use it another couple years too.

I have the same setup. Leopard is faster, but in my scenario I did an erase and install since I have an external backup drive. Used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the Tiger so now if I have to go back to Tiger for some reason I can. I'm enjoying Leopard. The menu bar is NOT semi-transparent though. I guess that's a bonus for us PPC users, as I hear the transparent menu bar is hard to read, depending on the type of desktop background one is using.

What you could have said was that new mac OS are faster than the last, which is in some cases true.

In windows, new OS are usually slower.

hardware is still hardware though and intel/amd > G4.

Runs like a firecracker on my PowerBook G4 15 inch - only 1 gig of ram.

Posting from a 1.5 ghz 12 inch PB running on leopard quite well. Awesome so far, things seem to open faster, I can't quantity it though, but it seems like a worthy upgrade. go for it.

It's been working very well for me so far (Erase & Install, was running Panther). Safari is very fast and I think it seems to manage battery life better. Maybe I was using a "bonehead" setting before, but when I'd put my computer to sleep I'd often lose 5-7% time remaining when I woke it back up. I'm seeing a 0-2% drop in Leopard.

Again, as noted earlier I was running Panther before, not Tiger, so this upgrade is more significant for me overall.

Great to hear that it's working well. I guess I will put Leopard on my 12''er too. Can't wait. Love some of Leopards new features.
