Let's look at how much display we get per oz.

Pixel 2 -- 5.0" display and weighs 5.00 oz -- 1.00"/oz
Pixel 3 -- 5.5" display and weighs 5.22 oz -- 1.05"/oz

iPhone XE -- 4" display and weighs 3.99 oz -- 1.0"/oz
iPhone 6 -- 4.7" display and weights 4.55 oz -- 1.03"/oz
iPhone 7 -- 4.7" display and weights 4.87 oz -- 0.96"/oz
iPhone 8 -- 4.7" display and weighs 5.22 oz -- 0.90"/oz
iPhone X -- 5.8" display and weights 6.14 oz -- 0.94"/oz
iPhone XS -- 5.8" display and weighs 6.22 oz -- 0.93"/oz
iPhone XR -- 6.1" display and weights 6.84 oz -- 0.89"/oz

Pixel 3 wins clearly. I don't plan to move to Android, but this is disappointing. Pixel is increasing the amount of display per oz, while iPhone is dropping it.

It might be worthwhile repeating the same calculations for area, rather than diagonal, but those numbers don't seem to be easily available.

We can also compare wheel diameter of a car to the size of its engine. It would give us some numbers that we can be happy or sad about, even though those numbers won't actually really say much about anything one way or another.
