Let's talk about underrated applications

What are some underrated and less popular apps you'd recommend? Usually the underrated apps aren't cheap, they tend to be more than 99 cents or they have a very exclusive market or purpose. They also tend to be out of the top 20 list on iTunes. Here are some of mine.


World Factbook 2008 (basically the CIA encyclopedia in your hands, everything you want to know about all the countries.)

Pyro Mania (A fireworks simulation that's way better than the others. Perfect for wasting time in the bathroom or in line, you can also listen to your music while you do this.)

IR-909 (Very fun 909 drum machine simulator, amazing, just like the real thing.)

Dactyl 2 (A simple game where you defuse games, a game that tests your reflexes, very addicting, and the equal has multiple level's of difficulties.)

Auroa Feint: The Arena (It's expensive, but it's better than the original, with online play, it's an amazing RPG puzzle game that will take up hours of your time.)

Karajan (It's expensive, an app that teaches people how to play music and ear train, very effective.)

USA Manual (Great for political science majors like me, has all the essential government readings, the Constitution, The Federalist Papers, etc.)

Frenzic (An addicting puzzle game that is way better than Tetris.)

Beejive IM (So much better than AIM, worth the price)

Beatmaker (Simply a beat maker, a very good one, complicated, you need to practice, but you can do anything, 20 bucks, but worth it if your into that kind of thing.)

Bonsai Blast (Basically Zuma, very fun game, one of the best games on the iPhone/iPod Touch)

Assignments (Great organizer for college students)

That Dactyl app is so damn frustrating. It's a polished app by my definition but man, it's so hard to beat! I guess that means it's good...haha

As for BeeJive, I'm not sure I'd call that one underrated.

I personally enjoy:

SpeakEasy (Voice recorder that's come through for me big time as I attend postgame press conferences as part of my job to record and type quotes.)

RadioBOX (Internet streaming, low battery usage)

StepTrakLight (Pedometer that's free)

JellyCar (Damn fun and the graphics/sounds are goofy but that makes it part of the lure for me)

Are you talking about the World Factbook for $4.99 or the .99 one? I got the .99 one and my friend has the 4.99 one and they are the same. I do like it along with the USA Manual (you mentioned that one) and an app called Congress. I got my BA in Poly. Sci as well, so I love these apps. of course.

There are a lot of underrated ones or ones I think are underrated. Like the poster above me said, RadioBox is one, a new one called The Plateau (cool puzzle game--.99 is a steal for it), and 1Password (free) come to mind.

A good one for college students or anyone is Stanza (has a ton of free books--many that are required for many classes or for me they were). I know that isn't underrated, but deserves to be mentioned IMO.

For all American iPhone/iPod Touch users, these should definitely be on their devices (yes I have both!):

Constitution

Declaration of Independence

Both are free. Very underrated for sure.

[app]Now Playing[/app] is the best movie showtime app ever out there, hands down.

Out of all the (7 pages worth) of apps I have, I think the one I use the most is a puzzle game called BeeCells. It's only 99 cents and there's a free lite version, and it's totally addictive. I pick it up and play it all the time when I have a few minutes to spare. Totally addictive!

I think iStorage is very underappreciated. We're always hearing about Airsharing, Files, Briefcase, etc., but iStorage destroys all these apps.

Let me tell you what it can do. First and foremost, it has a built-in browser, so you can download almost any file off of the internet. If it is a .zip file, it can upzip it too. This also means that you can download attached e-mail files. After downloading them, then you can (sometimes) play them or view them. You can then edit these files, then either 1) re-compress it, 2) upload it somewhere, 3) e-mail it to someone, or 4) transfer them to your desktop using WiFi (or to any other device on the network).

Or, you can just store files after placing them. You can transfer text files from your desktop to edit them on the run. Or, you can make new text files while out and then do any of the 4 steps detailed above.

I have to say that this app is the only one of its kind and works terrific. I use it weekly to remind me when bills are due and how much. It does away with all of that budget garbage and simply says you have these bills left to pay this month and this is how much they are. Once its set up it is a very useful and under appreciated app.

I highly recommend it for those that are always late paying bills because they "forgot" or those that worry about their credit rating or anyone that cares about paying for what you use on time.

A very simple and usefull app.

My vote for most under rated app is "Pointer" -- sure, it's ugly and kind of slow to load slides but it works pretty darned well!

Looks like a neat app. I have Datacase and Airsharing but I think I'll give this a go.
