I guess I felt like there would be more apps available at the launch of iOS 11. My own impatience seems to have set me up for disappointment, but I would settle for some of the demos that I saw in the weeks after ARKit was released. So far the AR apps that I've downloaded haven't lived up to the hype, the images that are overlaid don't really stay where they are supposed to and for the most part look pretty low resolution.

I'm sure we will see more polished apps coming in the future, but after hyping ARKit as THE feature of iOS 11 I've been pretty underwhelmed so far.

ARKit was released back at the beginning of June to developers. It's not like they can't develop apps for iOS 11 until it's out.
To be fair it may take longer than 3-4 months to make a good AR app/game.

And they could not even START releasing iOS11 compatible apps until 2 weeks ago; that's the point. It's been 2 weeks, relax.

I’m looking forward to getting to seeing more AR apps, but honestly, what’s out already is just “OK” for the most part. I think it’s just going to take some time. Kind of like TouchID intgation, Siri integration and the move to 64 bit did.

Lets be realistic here. Historically when a major feature is released, it takes up to a year before it gets truly utilized and is taken advantage of. It's just like when a new console is launched, very, very few and lower quality games at launch, compared to what's available a year later.

I realize that Apple hyped the capability, not for users but for developers -- to get them interested. That said, I would like to see the mapping app they demoed (where you can follow the virtual line while walking to get to your destination) or the Find your Friends in a crowd app. They'll come, though, and the reality of these apps will probably blow away the first ideation phase.

Meh - I played with an AR tape measure for a few moments - it was cool and maybe someday useful, other than that, I think AR turns out to be over-hyped.
