Don't ya think Apple could squeeze a fin or two onto the MBA heatsink somewhere? No wonder it heats up so.

I think the case IS the only real heatsink on the thing. Once the case heats up a bit, on go the fans.

At least the MBP has some fins so a little bit of airflow seems to dissipate a lot more heat.

Heatsink are just solutions to deal with the symptoms caused by a bad processor, the CPUs in the MBA are not designed for this type of notebook. Installing a newer heat sink is not a true solution, a better processor is. Due 3rd-4th quarter this year.

Still the TDP of the MBA processor is only 20W compared to 34W for the Penryn. Hard to see how the TDP gets to be much less in Q3.

I think even the X3100 takes 14-17W with the southbridge included (I found this somewhere on the web). I can't see the next version going to less than 17W or so itself.

Its interesting that the TDP of the Penryn is the same as the Merom processor they replace despite the statements that they run cooler. I suspect that they do in fact run cooler but if Apple is forced by Intel to provide cooling to the same degree then the Penryns run even cooler than they could if the TDP requirment was lowered.
