Letter ‘i’ shows as question mark in a square

A friend of mine had me trouble shooting our phones trying to figure out why instead of an ‘i’ we are seeing the dreaded ?in a square. Haven’t seen any helpful fixes for this, we’ve done cleaning the cache, hard reset & standard reset. I’ve seen it on my twitter feed while my friend sees it on both her Twitter & instagram feeds.
