letting Apple engrave a new iPad during ordering process pretty much makes it impossible to sell in a year or two, right? but what about trade-in? will Apple accept an engraved iPad?(one that was engraved by Apple)

Trade-in to Apple should be fine, I think. They replace chassis and battery as part of their refurbishment process.

Also whether it's engraved isn't even a question Apple asks during the process. You can also return an engraved item, so no problem to trade one in either.

The only thing you can't do with an engraved item is exchange it in the store for something else. It can only be returned or traded.
