LG BLURAY BURNER IN A MAC PRO 2.8? (Early 2008 - 3.1)

Hi guys the reason of this message is to know if i can connect the LG Bluray Burner BH12LS38 in a 2008 Mac Pro 2.8 (Model 3.1) Ive read several things regarding this machine. It seems to have a hidden SATA port and lots of people connected Bluray Burners to this computer without problems.

Is this correct?

I have a Mac Pro 2.8 (8 core) Model 3.1 with 8 gb of memory and a Ati HD 5770.

I have an older LG Bluray burner in my Mac Pro 3,1, its the only optical drive I have. I have it connected to one of the two spare SATA ports near the front of the motherboard. The model I have is GGW-H20L, works just fine.

I asked for this since I am worried. I want to know if all LG Bluray Burners work fine with OSX in my mac.

BR is cool but I'd rather use a scratch disk like an SSD and just do without the worries of the optical disc getting scratched, or rendered useless... after it's all said and done, it's better to just use a HD. I had one in my MP and got rid of it... too slow, and it was temperamental at times and I treat my stuff very, very well. The scratch disk option in toast was cool, but they are SLOW... I'd just save my $$ and buy a small SSD. If your authoring BR titles then cool, archive, na... go with a HD or DL DVD because not everyone is going to have a BR ROM and if your time is important, having to copy from them and burn to readable media is something to think about... they are very, very SLOW!.

NO OSX NATIVE SUPPORT but Toast can work with them and has a dynamic disc burning feature... but VERY, VERY SLOW!

I run a Pioneer BDR-206 on one of my hidden SATA ports. Works with no problems in OS X. OWC sells kits that include the L-shaped SATA cable and Molex-PCIe power adapter you need for easy installation.

But if you want it working in Windows, you have to install the Intel AHCI drivers, which isn't for the faint of heart on pre-4,1 machines. Lots of info here.

Yes, I know that OWC sells that kit. The thing is that I live in Argentina. So i only can find the BH12LS38 and OWC sells the WH12LS39

I was wondering what are the differences between one burner and the other... because i only can buy the the first one in my country and I want this burner to work in my Mac Pro

I have an LG burner in mine and it works fine with DVDs. I haven't tested it with Blu-rays as I don't have any s/w for it and don't see a need to be burning Blurays...
