I just hooked up an LG Ultrafine 5k to my 2017 5k iMac and it's flickering (sometimes), but mostly just sitting there turned off. Are these still experiencing issues? Just wondering if anyone else is doing this successfully. Not sure whether to return or exchange and try again.

Mac OS won't recognize the display. It flickers a bit but mostly is off, and is not appearing under settings. I'm not sure how I would update it.

The iMac's thunderbolt 3/usb-c ports are a bit more difficult to activate. You really have to push the connector in with force for it to be recognized by the computer.

^ See post 16 on that thread. There's a few threads here where the consensus was that for the usb-c ports to work properly on an iMac 2017, you really have to push them in more than in any other computer.

Thanks. I took it back out of the box and tried it again.

First I tried the cable only with an SSD I have that is USBC. It worked fine. Then I plugged in the monitor, and the iMac dims, starts to look like it's going to recognize the monitor, but nothing happens. The LG gets an image for a split second and then stays off.

I hate to say it but return the LG 5K monitor if you can.
Too many problems IMO.
That LG and Apple does not seem to resolve, for too many still. roll eyes.
I wish I could but of course Ive had it too long.
I let it sit there on my desk for several months and didnt use it at all I was so upset about all the issues and I had to send mine back for the wifi insulation, jeez.

Do you all give the LG app permission to control your MAC when installing the update ?

I did that one time with linkedIn and regretted it as the software pulled all my personal info. Fine print.

Zep,

As much as I enjoy Korean made products, they have been sneaking stuff onto electronics with updates. For example, Samsung released a new 4k TV, however you had to install an upgrade to get the 4k functionality. Once installed, ad banners began appearing on the screen of the TV. I was just about to purchase their TV when I discovered a comment about the issue. I returned home and did a deep dive. There were multiple reports and complaints. However, the reviews were all glowing. You had to dig for the condition. It almost appeared as if the site (Amazon) was deluged with positive feedback to push the negative ones into the background.

thx, yeah I remember seeing the thing about Samsung TV's.
but I am reluctant to allow the DL from LG to try and control the occasional flickering and a few more things.
LG says only way to get the software update is to install the LG Screen Manager.
But to do that you have to allow it to go into ur computer and , whatever it does, who knows?

So I was just wondering if anyone had negative clicking on the allow button when installing the LG Screen Manager to get the updated software/Firmware ?

Thx again for the chatting about this Average Pro

I Have a 2017 5K iMac + a LG 5K and everything works fine... Some users have found the cable was the cause of all the problems.

I actually exchanged the monitor for another one, and experienced the same issue. Even if it had worked, I felt really uncomfortable keeping it, with all the bad reports and the fact it wasn't and Apple product. So no Apple Care or support.
