LG Ultrafine display won’t output sound

I have had the LG Ultrafine 4K display for around 6 months and have had issues where the display won’t output the sound and defaults to the Mac speakers, I have tried to use
2 x 13 inch MacBooks Pros 2016
15inch MacBook Pro 2017
iPad Pro 2018

ALL won’t work with this display, the sound comes out the mac/iPad and not the display.

I have tried to contacting Apple support twice to pretty much no help as they don’t make the display

Has anyone else had this issue? If so how did you resolve it? I’m so frustrated with this

And you’ve selected the LG speakers as the output in system prefs under output? Sometimes I have to select mine manually and sometimes it switches automatically. This is the case on both my my UltraFine 4K displays.
