LG v. Samsung

We have all heard about how a higher percentage of the Samsung screens seem to have a yellowish tint problem towards the bottom of the screen. The LG screens seem to have less problems.

Does anyone know which company is more reputable for building higher quality LCDs in general? Please post what you know about the companies and how they compare. I believe the Cinema Displays use LG?

Now that we have heard problems with the Samsungs, are the Samsungs better than LG in any aspects such as picture quality? It seems the Samsungs have a more natural warm tone. I'm sure the LG can be calibrated to be similar.

Now the big question: How do I ensure if I return my Samsung MBP that I can get an LG one?

You don't...Unless you know someone at the apple store, and he/she lets you open the box and find out by yourself...but he/she would be fired afterwards...so i dont really think its possible...good luck...

ok, ill put it plain and simple, i have or have had TEN samsung LCDs

1. 15"
2. 15"
3. 17"
4. 19"
5. 19" Wide
6. 19" Wide
7. 19" Wide
9. 17"
10. 17"

only ONE has ever had a dead pixel the regular 19"
TWO have had color issues that i dont like, one of the 19" Wides and one of the 17" Wides..the weird part is i have the older version of both those screens and they are great, but the newer version the colors are funny, maybe its just a setting, i dont know...but the 17" the color is actually too deep and its weird looking, the other is a little on the blue side, and its a bit too bright that its kinda washed out

I bought one 17" LCD for my fathers computer for christmas a year ago..opened the box, dead pixel, brought it back to best buy got a replacement, 3 months later dead pixel...didnt bother replacing it i dont think he notices...but its there nice and bright red...i will NEVER buy LG again if i dont have to.

I know LG makes crap Tvs as I am a owner of one....have a samsung on my MBP think i will stick with it

I have 2 Samsung LCDs Syncmaster 204B 20 inch 1600x1200 and a Syncmaster 931B 19inch 1280x1024. Both have had no issues with color or dead/stuck pixels.

My new MBP SR 2.2 (week31) has a Samsung and it too is great. Play games (company of heroes, aoe3, lotr bfme2, c&c3, etc) and tons of work, spreadsheets, powerpoint, word, etc and have not noticed any color issue or bad pixels

The main thing I've read in terms of differences between the two (other than the lower 1/3 yellowing being supposedly more common in Samsung) is that the LG's have a big of a bluer tint while the Samsung's have a yellower tint. However, this really doesn't matter since it can be fixed by calibrating.

Samsung puts panels from three or four different manufacturers in their 206bw TFT, even thought they make panels themself aswell. Their own is supposed to be good, another is ok if you calibrate it, the third suck, and I think there is a recent fourth one aswell. (If the Samsung is intrested to you better get the HP wp2007 or whatever it's called instead, since you know you get a good panel then.)

Also the IPS-panels in the Nec 20WGX2, 20WGX2Pro, Philips 200WP7, Dell 2007 WFP (and therefor the 20" ACD? It's supposed to have the same panel as the Dells ISP one) are all LG Philips panels.

Samsung makes some PVA ones thought.

Anyway I would prefer to get the LG one, I don't know if they are superior on monitors at large atleast they want the panels I would prefer in any other monitor
