Libre Office to Pages...?

I want to change my Libre Office-created documents (.ods) to Apple's Pages (.pages). I have no clue how to do this, so suggestions, recommendations welcomed ASAP.

Open up the file in pages and save it again. If Pages won't open the ODS file natively (which I'm pretty sure it can) convert it to something else first, like .doc

Pages won't open .ods. I hope to avoid a many-step process as I have a great number of .ods files.

I don't recommend doing a wholesale conversion of those documents unless you absolutely need them now.

I have over 1000 documents in LibreOffice format that I need to use in Pages. The conversion is not clean. I also convert in the reverse direction.

Maybe you could just create an Automator script for it

I wish I could offer more concrete advice, but there really is no good option. But I was surprised at how many of those documents didn't need to be converted... because they weren't needed as much as I initially thought. You might find the same to be true.

[doublepost=1548189688][/doublepost]I agree with sracer; the .ods to .pages is a mess. Unless you absolutely **must** convert, stay with LIBRE/NEO/OPEN/office.

It's best not to wait 25 years to convert stuff though. I had a heck of a time recovering old MacWrite and WriteNow documents. The project ranks up there with digitizing your entire record and CD collection.

Here, 99 out of a 100, you'll never need. But that One can cause a lot of pain.
Format can be fixed once you have it readable, but you certainly don't need to do that for every document.
It'll drive you crazy.

Going to chime in with don't do it.

If five years down the road, and no longer using Mac, painted into a bit of a corner vs ODF has multiple tool options, including Google Docs which uses ODF for their filetypes.

And as others mentioned, these thing tend to never go cleanly, and if absolutely must, just do the ones that absolutely must be converted.

Oh, and: you mean .odt and not .ods to .pages, correct? As ods would be conversion to Numbers.

In the general sense, that is reasonable for a limited number of documents. But with regard to the OP's situation, it doesn't sound like it is applicable. Also, depending upon the source and destination formats, while the text may be preserved, it is not always guaranteed that any graphics will be carried over. It is time consuming to convert and verify.

The OP wants to go from LibreOffice to Pages...
LibreOffice is an open document format. Pages is proprietary. The probability of an open standard being around 25 years from now is far greater than the proprietary Pages format. Look at ClarisWorks/AppleWorks. There's nothing that properly reads those files today. (LibreOffice can "read" them but in only the most rudimentary way, and not all the content is retained) Pages will most likely suffer the same fate.

Very Likely.
Despite its sometimes annoying interface, that's why I use Libre Office now.
That and BBEdit. I doubt .txt will ever go out of style.
Apple and other companies have dropped more WP's than you can shake a stick at.
