Lid/case gap normal?

My iBook has a gap, actually there's a gap between the bottom half and the little rubber pads on the bezel. The resulting play in the lid when I pick it up gives it a flimsy feel but from what I've read it's pretty normal and causes no real harm.
My ibook also has this gap but that was after 6 months of use. This is a new open box computer I got today I expected not to be like this? BTW my ibook was also an open box item I got from a mac store.

I have a worse gap on my 17" MBP. Trust me, yours is in much better shape. If I gently press down or move my MAC it wakes up from sleep. If you send it in for a new one, chances are you will receive another one with a gap. It's just poor build on Apple's part
Okay that made me feel better. Good to know. So it really is an Apple fit and finish quality? I knoq my ibook had it but it was after a while. Hmm odd.

Quite frankly I like how Apple designs the hinge. I am less woried about how the computer looks while closed, when I know that what ever angel I open the computer to, it stays. That's important, and every PC laptop I had, had the hinge go bad eventually. Something I haven't seen on my Macs.
You're right guys it is normal but it's certainly not how it should be. You see the pic below? That's from Apple's website. That's how the lids on your MacBook Pros and PowerBook should actually look.
The PowerBook I'm on at the moment has a perfect shut line (though it's dented quite bad under the keyboard where I dropped it). My last one had a big gap on one side.

Most people, including me, can live with it because it's not really that bad, but it shouldn't happen. You ever see an Audi come out of the factory with a panel gap? Nope and that's a car with massive mixed metal panels (aluminium too in the case of the A8). Why Apple can't get a computer case to shut properly as a matter of course is slightly pathetic.

Totally normal. On my iBook the rubber stoppers on the corners of the screen stop the screen from fitting plush with everything else. I could really care less, cause I never have time to stare at my closed iBook.
