iPod Life Of iPod

Hello Everyone,
I have an iPod Nano 3G and I was wondering how long will it last me for? I take very good care of it, charge the battery weekly (after it has discharged) and don't drop it. I use my iPod daily for about 15 hours constantly and mostly keep it in my front pocket. So how many years of use should I get?

It should last for a long time. The battery will be the first thing to go, and you can always have it replaced. I have a 3rd Gen iPod (2003), and a 1st Gen Nano (2005) and both still work very well.

I know alot of people with iPod Mini's (2004/2005) that are used like you describe, and all they have done is replace the battery.

i know apple has the batt replacement program where they essentially give you a new ipod


what do they do when your ipod is no longer made? give you a new one or what?

Awesome! Thank You very much for your quick reply. I assumed that would be the answer and there are no moving parts. How easy would a battery install be as I have never done anything like that before? At least not in an iPod.

My first gen nano was bought day 1 when it was launched and still works like a charm (how long is that been, 3 or 4 years?)
Never had any kind of problems with it. Maybe it froze a very few times but eventually I got the problem solved myself!
I didn't replace the battery so today it only lasts like 1 hour or so of music playing... but I used the iPod almost every single day since I bought it. It's a part of me now
Looking forward the refreshed ones at september so I'm not really worried about replacing the battery of this one now..
And I think there are guides on youtube of how-to replace the battery yourself, but you can always have apple to replace it for you too.

I guess when the time comes I will either have Apple replace the battery for me or probably that time, get a new iPod.

Some are easier than others to replace yourself. I would recommend sending it back to Apple if you have any doubts.

I replaced a couple of iPod Mini batteries, and it was relatively easy. Your Nano looks much hard to open...

Thank You! I will enjoy my iPod. I can't tell you how many subway rides my iPod has gotten me through. I'm in Boston and take the subway all the time. Well, on the Red Line (connecting Cambridge and Boston) the speed limit has dropped from 40 MPH to 4 MPH over the Longfellow Bridge because the bridge is so deficient that any vibrations can cause the rail bed to have problems. It's agonizing, you can see the station right out the window and now it takes 10 minutes to get over the bridge. Thank heavens for iPods!
