I finally gave up and lost all hope with Cydia last night

I installed a new app from the appstore called dynolicous
Everytime I went to setup my car in the app - the app crashed

I had a sneaky suspicion that it was having problems reading the sqlite database, and I knew cydia had updated that as an "essential upgrade" at some point

So I restored my phone with the pwned 2.0 I made and hey presto dynolicous was working fine

Ran cydia - it installed the "essential upgrades" and dynolicous stopped working again
I tried to uninstall the update to sqlite through cydia but instead it uninstalled sqlite completely and "bricked" my iPhone

So I made a new .ipsw file through pwnage WITHOUT CYDIA
Restored my phone with that and WOW... just WOW

Its 5x quicker at least, has much better phone reception in the office (I was getting 0-1 bars, I now get 4 all day long), the phone doesnt do that thing where it slows down to a crawl when typing

I wont put cydia anywhere near my phone again, its an appaulingly badly written piece of software. I'll wait patiently for Installer.app 4 :)

Just some perspective, I have had absolutely no problems with Cydia in regards to performance or stability. I have 40+ App Store Apps on my phone and around 10 apps from Cydia, and everything gets along just fine. I'm not sure what's wrong with your phone.

I think mine was running quicker and with better stability without jailbreaking to begin with and I don't think Cydia helped matters, but since I do not have the expertise of the origional poster I will hope they make Cydia better in the future and I will just keep it. I like getting on the net with nothing more than a wireless connection to my tethered 3G iPhone too much. It's just too awesome.

Theres nothing wrong with my phone - its 2 months old - it ran bulletproof on 1.1.4

Its lightning quick on 2.0 without cydia. Still jailbroken, unlocked, updated...

At the end of the day cydia goes around updating core things like sqlite to versions which arent supposed to be on an iphone, so then proper apps released through the appstore are going to stop working as they will be writing their apps with the main OS in mind, not an updated and patched OS

There's no benefit at all to having it - there's no decent 3rd party apps at the moment and it bogs my iPhone down to hell. I hate the software

Roll on installer 4...

thank you

thank´s for this post i just repawned my 2 g iphone custom without cydia and it runs a lot snappier ! nice !

the only benefit from cydia i had so was compared to not having it was open ssh but since custom css mail signatures do not seem to work anymore in 2.0
thats useless for now too :)

@fuzzyorange - I guess the apps aren't too good at the moment on Cydia?

I jailbroke my 2.0 iPhone 1G but the lack of apps was obvious.

I've not yet jailbroken my new iPhone 3G because it's too time consuming in my lifestyle. I was wandering, what are the current apps like downloadable through cydia at the moment?

If you put pwnage into advanced mode - it comes up with a screen where you can unselect cydia - then build your custom ipsw file and restore your phone from itunes with it
