lifespan of MBA hinges

I just got MBA a couple months ago and since that time I have been babying opening and closing the screen because I have read the about the inevitable demise of its hinges. My question is how long did you have it until they begin to become loose and have a lot of play in them?

My 7-month-old MBP's hinges that I haven't done anything specifically to take care of, and opened multiple times a day, are prefect with no play at all.

I sure hope they 've fixed the hinges in this iteration. My powerbook 12" is as old as it is and has zero give when you type on your lap, if it moved at all I wouldnt be able to use it of course.

I am getting 3 years apple care so if at any point within that time frame I see the hinge have any sort of play more than few hundreds of a millimeter I ll take my air to the apple service and I 'll shove it up...oops I got carried away...

The hinges on the Air we've had on display for WAYYYY too long (thanks Apple) have really started to show some wear.

The hinge design is rather different, MBP's are so much nicer. I've seen many an Air with screwed up hinges come in for repair. AppleCare is a good idea on those machines.........

The good news is Apple will replace the screen/hinge assembly after it reaches a certain amount of "slop" or "play" etc. even if the machine is out of warranty.

Better news is it looks like new version of MBA has adopted the MBP hinge design which is much more durable.

I got almost 2 years out of my hinge

Just got it replaced, thank goodness for AppleCare.

The hinge probably started to go long before it finally cracked. It's been loose, a bit flimsy for some time. Then the plastic gave way.

Apple replaced my entire display along with the hinge. Really nice to have a firm, tight hinge again.

Both great news, the latter more so than the former of course because I don't know what apple define as a serviceable amount of play, I have the impression it could be close to earthquake dimensions....

On mine they lasted a little less than a year, so I was able to get them fixed under warranty and then bought applecare.
