Light sensor sensitivity

I find it very annoying on my new macbook pro 2.4ghz system. I like the feature but it seems to go up and down.

Is there a method to adjust the sensitivity? Like Wait a couple seconds to verify the change in light? Cause in some conditions when my left hand pinkie goes over the left speaker side sensor the screen adjusts, than reverts back to the original brightness. Most of the time it works correctly, but in my lab the type of light in there causes this and im in there for 8 hours a day.

The only place that i can duplicate the affect is in my lab, every other location it seems to work perfect.

I'm having the exact same issue. Been looking for the setting all day

I just turned it off altogether. Under System Preferences, in Display, there is the checkbox at the bottom for "Automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes".

To me, is easy enough to toggle the brightness up or down with F1 and F2

Thats a fair point but the nice bit about the sensor is the backlit keyboard....

I have this same "issue", but instead of it being my hands that adjust the light, it's the backgrounds of apps and webpages.

The most annoying thing is going from a site with a white background (MacRumors) to a site with a black one (Apple.com). This causes the screen to dim up and down and the keyboard lights to go crazy.

I know I can turn the feature off, but in most cases its good to have.

Thats a fair point but the nice bit about the sensor is the backlit keyboard....

The backlit keyboard is independent of the screen dimming. You can have one without the other. In System Preferences, go to Keyboard & Mouse then Keyboard, and you'll find a setting to enable/disable the backlighting. This works with or without screen dimming enabled.
