I'm surprised by many people that put having USB-C as one of the main features, some even saying that they won't buy the iPhone if it comes with Lightning. I prefer Lightning, but I wouldn't mind at all if it came with USB-C. In reality, almost no one is going to care about the connector. If you have to charge it outside home, Lightning is really widespread. It was a logical move in the iPad, because you can connect external drives and displays. The next step on the iPhone is getting rid of any connector.
