I just recently returned from a week of taking various photos.; landscape, night photography. I had imported some trial photos of a new lens I bought checking on focusing without any problems prior to taking my trip. During the trip while at a motel and today upon my return I've noticed that Lightroom is horribly slow iimporting my photos. Before it was only 10-20 photos but since the trip its groups of anywhere from 60-200+ photos. I had upgraded to Big Sur 11.4 before taking the test shots (no apparent issues) and now this trip's photos. Anyone else experiencing this or any ideas to improve the speed time of import other than going out and buying Photo Mechanic. I have not experienced this poor a performance in all the time I have been using Lr. I hope someone here on this forum can help and avoid me having call Adobe. Thanks in advance.

Tanagra (not really)
I'm not a LR user anymore, so just a guess. Is it maybe trying to do a bunch of denoise AI and the like upon import? That gets pretty resource intensive, which means slow. I use DxO PureRAW and it takes a considerable amount of time processing each image.

I never ingest directly into or via any software program, I simply dump my image files directly from the memory card to a folder on the desktop, and then from there do whatever I'm going to do with them. Sometimes I run them through Photo Mechanic first and cull out the bad images, other times I simply toss them into DXO PhotoLab 4 and quickly review them and edit a few as the mood strikes me, returning later to finish up the job.

Obviously, though, regardless of ingestion method and where the image files wind up going, it will take longer for the computer and the memory card to handle 60-200 image files as opposed to 10-40, especially if those files are large, shot with a camera which has high resolution.

Same problem for me after updating to Big Sur but it was specifically with AVCHD video files. Took over 4 hours for an import that normally took maybe an hour and a half tops. Soon afterwards I went back to Catalina and all was normal again.
