Limit bandwidth of comp on wired network?

Is it possible to limit the bandwidth of one Mac on a wired network (only medium is the Netgear router WPN824v2)?

Both are Mac. Mine is newest iMac. Other one is a MDD PowerMac. Both are OS X. Mine is Lion.

Anyways... I need to be able to throttle the bandwidth of the other computer. Is this possible?

Sure, just adjust the connection settings lower. You can go from 1000 to 100 or even 10 Mbits. That will slow it down.

If you are not an "IT major" best would be to hire someone to do it for you. The answer above could easily be implimented by someone with Terminal skills and would probably charge you an hour of labour.

Sorry to sound as though I am scoffing at the help, but I do not know what to do with that line of gibberish (gibberish to me), nor what it does. Nor what the XXXX should be replaced with.

On another forum, someone suggest QoS software. However, after some Google searches, it appears that OS X does not work with QoS. However, if I use a QoS software in XP via VirtualBox, would this still work?

Or am I just too far out of my league here? Haha

Are you having an issue with one person sucking too much internet bandwith? Is it Torrent related?

Is it really the local network that you need to limit bandwidth on, or a shared Internet connection?

Or you could just go to System Preferences > Network > Ethernet > Advanced (button) > Ethernet (tab) > Configure manually > and change the speed from "autoselect" to whichever you want.

That said this will throttle the ethernet speed on your local network. If it is internet speed you need to throttle, then you are better off doing this on the router itself. But I don't know that router....
