Limit Download email

I am using default mail software (Latest mojave) with Microsoft Exchange Email. i have 14000 mails and as soon as i configure it is downloading all mail and still downloading.

i want to limit this download. i tried find out solution but i don't see anything for limit download.

is there anyway to limit it ?

do you guys recommend any other 3rd part software without default mail ?

If Mail is working correctly its Exchange account folders will match what's on the server once the downloading/syncing of a newly added account is completed.

If the issue is hard drive space and this Exchange account is your only email I would advise using a browser to access the email account. If you choose this route you may have to do some manual file deletion to get rid of what Mail has downloaded for this account.
