We have lots of computers on home sharing. I have an Apple TV just for the kids that I want limited to link to a particular library which is all child-safe rather than all the other macs in the house which may have inappropriate content. Anyone have any suggestions as to do this? I don't want to take that library off onto its own home sharing because its a burden to transfer movies / purchases / etc from my computer among others.

I believe you can set a password for each library you share. Caveat: I haven't tested this myself.

Yes. That would be a pain since the shared computer would have its own Home Sharing credentials which would prevent me from using it for my iTunes purchases, sharing videos, etc. that I had bought on the main account.
I've been meaning to try this. At the support link http://www.apple.com/itunes/features/ it mentions that you can limit access to a library via playlists.
I have one library with everything and categorize the movies via Genre (Kids vs. Mom and Dad). I've been meaning to block the Mom and Dad movies but haven't gotten around to it.

I'm in the same boat; I have a bunch of movies that I don't want the kids to get into. My solution so far has been to buy an ATV1. I have all those movies on an external hard drive with it's own iTunes library; I just load that iTunes library and sync it to the ATV1 so that it gets everything there. Then I put away that hard drive. That works, for now, because the ATV1 is in the master suite. But it really isn't a long term solution; AND I would like to put a password on the ATV1 so that the kids couldn't get to it even if they wanted to (so far I don't think you can).
In the long term, I would like to have only ATV2's or 3's and then I have the same thing. I would like to have a library that is shared but not available to the other ATV's; or better would be to have them password protected so that I can share everything and then just unlock it based on what TV I'm at.

I wish they treated the ATV2 like the other IOS devices. I have a shared library on iTunes on my mac mini. On my kids iPod Touch 4's I can go in and install parental controls. I set movies to PG only, apps to 12 and under etc.
This way when they go to Videos on their iPods they only see PG and under and can only get 12 and under apps from the app store. One caveat is if you don't rate a video is available to all so make sure you do that.
So if the ATV2 did that you could lock out everything you don't want your kids to see.

I'm confused. The ATV2 does have password protected parental controls. I haven't had my coffee yet this morning so I must be missing something.

My kids are the primary consumers of our ATV2 (netflix). I hid the rental stuff because of the same reasons. Besides the covers, I didn't want the kids asking for a movie that wasn't on Netflix yet. I haven't rented anything on it yet

We are talking about two different things. ON the iOS personal devices I can limit what they see from their device. DOing this for the ATV2 It would be kind like different log ons for your computer and giving rights to each user.
With the parental controls on I have to use the password to get that stuff. It works but it would be cool if you had a log on for ATV2 and with that came certain permission levels.
