Is there somewhere a chart, which lists GPU's for macs (especially MPs),
which mac they will work with and which osX / macOS versions?

Can x1900 be only used with mp1,1-2,1?
What breaks the compatibility with newer MPs?
Or is it the OS? Could x1900 work with mp3,1 + 10.10?
(Since it does not work with mp3,1 & 10.11.)

X1900 works up to 10.7.5 in a MP1.1 / 2.1 as it has EFI32 Rom

later OS have no driver.

its an ancient loud card what draws a lot of current.

This is what you want

I'm sure I had one of those in my G5.

Cards with EFI32 does not work with mp3,1 at all?

Btw, I remember wrong, this is "pc-version" of the card.

If I need a EFI64 fw/bios for it, where can I find it?

I dont understand what you want to achieve with this old card,

there are no drivers in a newer OS than 10.7.5

There is no 64 Bit Efi rom around.

Get a GTX680, runs much quieter and is super easy flashable.

Runs up to Big Sur if no DisplayPort is needed.

Well,
I just happen to have this card, I don't need much gpu power.
It's ecological to use what you have.
I'm also short of time with this hobby.
If you want to send me a gtx680, I'm happy to send you my address.

I guess now, that you could use x1900 with 10.7. in mp3,1.

Question still remains, if you take that kext, which newer OSses it will work?

Can anybody share me with this ATI-kext from 10.7?
I don't have 10.7 even in old images, I jumped from 10.6 straight to something like 10.10.

X1900 for mac pro was 512MB. Mine, which is "pc version" (connect 3D) is also 512MB.
I just found an old dir that has flashing files to it from 2008.
Maybe I did flash it back then, I guess you couldn't run 10.6 without flashing it...?

Since your Mac Pro Classic is that rare these days, you should be able to score great cards for just a view bucks and a great upgrade in value for your 1.1/2.1 MP.
Back in the day I knew a gentleman that put two AMD 3870 Mac Edition cards in for more power., but I believe it was a 3.1. You should be able to put every 3.1 card in your 1.1 at least. Most likely you will flock to the latest OS X possible for a wide variety of reasons. I guess it fully depends what you do with your Mac and what OSX makes the most sense For you application. Today the answer could be “the newest possible” because of web/browser support. Good luck and never underestimate the power of a pimped Mac Pro.
