Just a heads up ... I went to my local Best Buy and was able to purchase one of the new mid-level minis. This worked out pretty well as I had RZ certificates and do not have an Apple store very close to me. The person who rung me up also took off the small educational discount. They had the new labels mixed in with the Mac laptops and only had one or two in stock.

I just thought I'd share as the BB website still has them listed as "pre-order" and unavailable in store. I did double-check to make sure it was a new model (looked for USB 3, 1 TB, and Intel 4000 graphics).

That's good news. I bought a refurb mid level on the 3rd. I want to exchange it for the new basic Mini at BB. I called yesterday and the girl told me at least two weeks. I guess I will call another store.

How did you go about getting the Ed discount?

Called a different Best Buy.

My old Mini backup is transferring to the new one right now. :D

Just took my 21 day old 2011 Mid back... and have a 2012 Mid sitting on the desk now. They had exactly ONE in stock, and the first person I asked told me that they didn't have any in yet. I told her that was unlikely as the individual I talked to told me 3 different times that they had one there, and that was after giving them the stock and SKU number. Guy went in back and my baby came out to me!

The sales person was telling me to watch pricing as they would match any advertised price within the first 30 days of my purchase ... I asked if they would match the ed price from Apple's website (since I qualify and showed my ID) and he said no problem (it was only $20 off which might be what made it easier).

Oh ok thanks! I go to school online so I don't have a student ID.

I think it just depends on the person who rings you up. I think for the small amount of the discount, they might not be too uptight about it.

Well, it took the customer service guy about 20 minutes and three tries to exchange my 2011 Mini for the new one. He also took my Reward Zone card twice and forgot to scan it both times. Finally, he almost dropped the Mini while bagging it.

I didn't want to make his head explode haha. :D
