Does anyone know why I can’t select 24 bit 192 kHz when I have my M1 MacBook Pro connected to my Denon AVR via HDMI?

I’ve tried 2 different USB-C docks with an HDMI port and they made no difference. Also tried two cables.

I can get 24/48 from the AVR rear HDMI ports and 16/48 from the front port.

I can’t figure out why the Mac won’t let me switch to 24/192.

I found this while looking for answers for myself, although a different setup and problem. Figured I'd comment-bump.

16" MacBook Pro. I can select up to 8ch 24bit/192, but it doesn't matter which I select, the output I get is always in mono, and sounds terrible.

I'm connecting to a Denon X2500. Quite frustrating.

I swapped dongles; went from the Apple USBC > USBC/HDMI/USBA dongle to an IOGEAR USBC> HDMI dongle and my audio options completely changed.

I'm still only getting mono output but all my options above 24bit/48k have vanished. Dongle seems to be playing a large role and I'd assume so are your docks.

OMG. update again; I had System Preferences Accessibility > Play stereo as mono enabled...some fricken how. ?‍♂️

ALSO: Not all AVR HDMI ports are treated equally; despite no mention of this in the AVR's manual, the Aux 1 port does not properly handshake with macOS, which only sees a 1080p monitor. The rear HDMI ports must be used... which sucks in my situation. But when you do, you get RETINA!!

All I wanted to do was edit some video in the living room. Became a 6 hour troubleshooting adventure. (this should have been a separate post. hopefully someone in the future will benefit )

It has been a day.
