I have two of his tweaks and I paid for them long ago. Don't see a problem in his response.

The problem people are having is that no one should be able to take control over your phone and force a restore so you lose your jailbreak for good.

Ordinarily I'd agree with you, but in this instance it would seem the problem people are having is paying for and using legitimate software.

You take your chances with cracked/pirated software, so no crying about it when it turns south on you.

It used to be that you took responsibility in your own hands when you jailbroke. Lately it seems people want no part of that but are more than willing to cheat devs. It's no wonder so many devs have abandoned jailbreak tweak development.

If he did that, he would violate Apple terms of service and could get banned. He deleted his post.
Despite jailbreaking being a legal exemption under the DMCA, the act of jailbreaking itself violates Apple's terms of service.

So, he's already in violation. What was stopping Apple from banning him before?

Good question and one I don’t have an answer for.

But Devs are also fully aware that their tweaks get pirated and that there are always going to be those lame people who won’t spring for a $1.00. I agree they shouldn’t pirate, but I still don’t think vigilante threats are right either. I’m glad he deleted his comment.

Fair enough. I still disagree, but you make a valid point.

Piracy is wrong, so is unauthorised updating someone else's iPhone, 2 wrongs do not make a right.

There also is a distinct difference in (legally) jailbreaking your own device and as a result being denied service by Apple, which is the only thing they can do; from Apple support pages:
"Apple strongly cautions against installing any software that hacks iOS. It is also important to note that unauthorized modification of iOS is a violation of the iOS end-user software license agreement and because of this, Apple may deny service for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has installed any unauthorized software."

Unauthorised access/updating an iPhone that isn't yours is illegal, it also breaks the Dev licences and App store licence, for which you can get banned from Dev privileges etc.

I'm surprised Elias posted this, when he first released Audiorecorder he pulled it after a few weeks because of possible legal problems with releasing call recording software, which in some countries is illegal, so he is pretty aware of possible legal issues.

I understand his frustration with piracy, but his post certainly was not the solution.

There's also the fact that 12.1.1 beta 3 is still being signed so his threat is pretty empty at the moment. Sure, you'd have to start over with the jailbreak but I'm pretty sure there's at least one tweak backup solution available for this jailbreak that would negate that issue.

Edit: Unless the signing window has closed and I missed it, of course.

There are contradicting reports right now. unc0ver developr reported that it was closed, but then some people are saying that they are still able to get it signed.
