I have a mac book pro with eyetv on it. I'm using their composite audio converter cable (i have no idea of any technical name for it) that accompanies Eyetv, which allows you to plug the composite audio into a mic jack.

Through minor research it seems the line-in port on Macbook pros requires some sort of amplifier or power to pick up microphone sound. Is the same true for this cable, because I hear nothing?

If I go to the system preferences I see audio being picked up on the input tab (the equalizer dohickey runs frantically back and forth) and the input volume is up and set to Audio line-in port, and yet nothing. I want to hear my cable box! Any suggestions, advice or ridecule?
