My wife needs a second phone number for minimal use at her hotel, she's the GM. Not really wanting to carry two phones and I found Line2.

Does anyone use this and have a serious opinion about it? The reviews are shaky looking to me.

Are you able to receive calls on the second line without having the app open? And when you make an outgoing call on the second line, what phone number shows up to the caller? And how does voicemail work on it?

Line2 is just a VoIP service being marketed to iphone people. There is a whole other set of VoIP apps being sold to Touch and iPad users (dudes without a 1st line). But it's the same tech so they are interchangeable. Broaden your search with 'VoIP' and check out the ratings.

Anything from acrobits can include their servers watching for calls and sending pushes.

I tried Line 2 for a while and the call quality was fair so I moved on. Try Google voice it's free and and has surprisingly decent quality.

Another great option is VoxOx. The quality is better than Line 2 and the prices are crazy cheap (you get 100 free minutes per month). The app is also very nice to use without a bunch of junky ads. Another option would be to set up a number through a voip provider like Voip.MS and then run it through a SIP like Bria. In my testing VoxOx is better quality and easier to set up. Both are great and inexpensive though! Much better value than Line2, in my opinion.
