Hi all,

I have a 2016 13" MacBook Pro and recently when I open my laptop and it wakes up from sleep it has lines across the top of the screen which tend to go away after the laptop is on for a few minutes. There has been a handful of times where the whole screen had lines across it but they went away after a few seconds. Could this be the Graphics card or the screen going on me? Thanks

Applecare repaired my machine 3 times, and then gave me a new one, for a similar issue. A repair will be costly either way. Connecting it to an external display, keyboard, and pointing device, and booting it in closed clamshell mode should offer you clues. If you see the lines on the external display, the trouble is inside the computer. If you never see the lines on the external display, when the lines on the display of your notebook become intolerable to you, begin using your machine with an external display, greatly diminishing its convenience of use.

I'd say that looks more of a display issue than a GPU issue. When the GPU starts to fail, usually you get software issues along with hardware symptoms. In this case, just lines and regular operating of the OS leads me to believe that.

I would suggest you contact Apple for a more definitive diagnostic and repair quote. I'd hurry if I were you, as a 2016, your Mac is close to entering obsolete stage, at which point displays for your Mac may become tougher to come by.
