My friend was in another country for a time, and now her international number is lingering in my ecosystem. I'm looking for any tips how to make it go away.

My bestie went to Spain. We live in the US. While she was there, she was using a Spanish SIM. I added that number to her contact card so that when we texted, it would come up as her.

Now she's back, and I can't get rid of that number. I've removed it from her contact card. That change has synced to all of my devices. However, whenever I text her by her name from my phone, it doesn't come up as her name. It reverts to her +34 number, which is no longer in use. She gets the texts, and she replies. On my desktop version of Messages, it shows as her name. On my phone, however, it shows as her +34 number and the conversation is split off from her card/name.

Is there a way to fix that? As I said, I've removed that number from her contact card and that's reflected across the board. But when I click on her picture and text her, it bounces to a different window with +34-555-555-555 as the header. It's weird. And disorienting.

Any ideas on how to disrupt that and collate the chats would be so appreciated.

Cheers!

Are the bubbles green or blue? If blue, then it's using iMessage and would explain why she's still getting your messages. She may also even be replying from that number.

On your end: Make sure you're sending to her US number. You may have to start a new conversation and put in her number (don't use the contact card). Also, don't reply to an old conversation, as that will just reply to the number she used to send her last message.

On her end: Have her check to make sure the Spanish number isn't still associated to iMessage that she can receive and send from.

She could also go here to deregister the Spanish number.

Everything is blue, so it's something stuck in iMessages.

She told me she's done everything on her end to clear the number, but I'll shoot her those articles just in case. As for me, I'll try your suggestion of hand-typing her domestic number and see what happens. The Messages app on one of my devices—I can't recall which—does a slightly better job at merging the two, so the option of "don't reply to a previous conversation" gets a little tricky since it (and I think it's my laptop) just kind of merges them after a few moments anyway.

Thanks for your suggestions!

I don't know if you have any other ideas, but it's persisting. I looked at her phone, and her Spanish number is no longer in the phone at all. I deleted our chat history from my phone, which sucked. I sent texts directly to her US number (instead of her contact card). I've hard restarted my phone. And when I sent a text to her from my laptop today... it came through to my phone as her Spanish number, not her contact. I can't even fathom how or where this data is persisting in my ecosystem.
