Link ipod touch to contact's phone #?

I have friends who only have iMessage on their ipod's. They message me and their email comes up.

But they also text me from their phones.

So now I have 2 message threads going with the same person. Is there a way to combine iMessage/their phone texts into one conversation?

Are they in your address book with both their phone number and their e-mail address listed?

That's all I can think of. If you already have that then I don't think there's anything else you can do.
