I am taking my old PC and turning it into a server for my mac. I do Ubuntu Linux installed and am using internet sharing from my ibook to the pc via the ethernet port. I got the linux box to read my ibook, but I can't get the ibook to read the pc. Is there any special setting or configuration I am missing? Whenever I try to connect I get the message:

The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again.

Anyone have exprience with this issue?

Are you sure the PC is sharing it's resources? Have a look in the /etc/smb.conf file to see what folders are being shared, and check that smbd is running by use of the "ps -ax" command.

On the Mac, make sure you're looking for samba shares by type smb:// before the name of the PC.
