I am trying to put Linux Puppy on a external drive with no luck :(They say Puppy is easy to install,the problem i am having is formating the drive with gparted why can,t it just be done auromaticly like Windows.Ir comes up different to this video.
mind you he is doing it to a internal drive not that would make any differance to a external drive.
if anyone can write down what i have to do to fotmat the drive.

As long as you have boot, root, and home you should be fine.

Having problems with gparted doesn’t say much

IIRC puppy is meant to be run live off the USB and will save your session to the USB if you wish. Just dd the .iso to the thumb drive and use it like that.

Swap files/partitions are not required provided you have enough ram and since puppy's intended usage is on old equipment you likely have enough.

dd if=/path/to/iso of=/path/to/usb bs=4m<--you can go bigger or smaller here but 4 will be fine (bs means block size)

it will do everything you need to boot from the usb and you can save your work and state when you log off. You do not need to partition the USB first.
