Linux Thumb/USB Drive Booting

Does anyone know a way to boot a Live Linux Distro via a USB Thumb Drive?

on a PPC mac, not as far as I know. On an Intel mac it should be possible, but I started to do this the other day with DSL but every time I loaded the cd it gave me the linux startup screen and then restarted to OSX. I'll update you if I have any luck (time to browse the forums on how to install linux normally).
