So, I have looked through all the posts here, I wasn't able to find something similar to what I'm going to ask. I've got an iMac with file vault turned on. I also have auto-login disabled, therefore I am given a login window before I can get to my desktop. So here's what I am getting at. Normally you see the apple logo/spinning gear, blue screen, then login window. I noticed that in Lion the Apple logo appears, then the login window, followed by the spinning gear. Afterwards, it progresses to blue screen and finally onto the desktop. Anyone else see similar behavior?

I think it's funny there have been so many views, yet only one reply on this post. Nobody else wants to confirm this?

Yes because the whole disk is now encrypted, Lion must decrypt before running. That is the reason for the multistep process. It's actually pretty neat that this is visually impacting the boot process for a user. Makes it a little more understandable and clear to the user that it may actually be working.
