Lion on a Flash drive

I just installed Lion using Recovery mode (command R) on a usb thumb drive. It installed fine but it is really slowww. Is this normal? BTW, the drive is directly in the Mac Mini (2011) usb port.

USB is magnitudes slower than the internal HDD. Don't expect performance from a USB flash drive boot. The only way a USB flash drive is practical is for an emergency boot.
