Lion Release Quite Imminent!

I was at my local Staples Electronics Store, and all their stock of Snow Leopard was gone...
I was told by an employee that their store has no say in what gets brought in, and that it is all at Apple's discretion.

I'm thinking that Apple is clearing it (Snow Leopard) from resellers so that people will be more obligated to buy Lion instead. I can't see Apple just outright stopping sales for a very long time, which makes me think that Lion is super close, considering the GM was also seeded.

Does this make sense?
 
But Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is needed to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, why would Apple remove it willingly then? Unless they plan to introduce Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Retail DVDs, which it doesn't look like.

They've been clearing it for a while but still need stock since this is the only way pre SL users will be able to update to Lion. Plus, Staples staff are not likely to know anything we don't already know

Hmm, that's true. Good point. I'd love to see Apple release some kind of physical media solution for those who have a slow internet connection, but I'm probably dreaming to much.

Maybe people are going to be able to buy it from Apple's website... Kinda like the app store, but on a web browser. If they remove snow leopard from store shelves, I guess that would be a way to sell it to people who are still on tiger or leopard.

But how should that work? Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard still needs to be installed via some bootable device, unless the installer is modified to create its own partition like Lion does.
Anyway, we'll see.

I meant to buy and install Lion from Apple's website.

Also, I corrected my post as I meant tiger in my last sentence.
 
It could be as like as Tiger (or was it Leopard?)

You can order Tiger or Leopard with calling Apple (not Retail or Online) and get $130


Snow Leopard will be available from Online or somewhere else because Jobs said we need SL to install Lion. So No Lion clean install legally. (It's not illegal to burn the file located contents of Lion.)

Can't you do a clean install by using the recovery partition? Use Disk Utility in the recovery to wipe it, and then clean install.
 
Apple should make it so that to upgrade to 10.7, you first need to buy and install 10.1, then 10.2, then 10.3, 10.4, 10.5 and 10.6. That would be so much fun, it would be like a little history lesson on what OSs Apple has made to date.

Also, that way, they could make Lion free and still get $1000 for it.
