Im starting a new business and very exited with the items Lion server has not only that but the price is more affordable then windows systems.

I do have an MSDN account and we are also a Microsoft business partner so we can install windows server on a few system to test thing out to see how it goes but i really am not sure about Lion.

If i was to get lion server and install it on a Mac Mini in the corner for our backup, iCal etc can I install this again on another Mac Mini for testing items before we alter production?

I know some will say just buy another copy and don't steal witch i totally understand that and anything we use in a production environment yes we should pay for but If i want to figure something out with the learning curve moving from a windows server platform to more Lion server platform whats the amount of installs i can do with lion server?

What made me think about this is when i buy a game say Angry birds on my iPhone i got that on my iPod and iPad if i would like up to 10 devices i think they said?

Thank you for any advice.

How many people in your company and what is the make up of computers and mobile devices (OS and type?) Without this information it would be hard to recommend anything.

We have 2 Mac-book Pro's Lion
Two Mac-book airs Lion
8 Mac Mini Clients Lion
8 Windows Clients Windows 7

1 Windows server 2008 production with another standby on the side.
1 Sinology 8tb NAS unit backups all data and we back that up with 3tb drives
then take them off site. Average 2 drives at a time.

What we are thinking of doing is replacing the Windows systems with Mac Mini's and telling all the backups from the clients to backup to the server and point the server to the NAS.

Everyone uses Unlocked iPhones

Pretty small environment. You have some options. You could do this all on a few Mac Minis or ask your MS rep about their cloud Exchange Services.

I guess the question i have is If we buy Lion server on one of the Mac Minis as we test the waters moving more away from MS to Mac could we install multiple copy's of Lion server on a few systems for testing only?

We want to make sure we are legit with anything production its not an option for us. I guess we are just spoiled with all the MSDN stuff and we can install even without MSDN for 30 days before we need to do any buying.

We want to test the Mac stuff before we make the leap.

You'll have to buy it.

first of all you with all the MSDN stuff Lion Server is like a fraction the cost of MS Server. So buy a copy...Good now that you have done that you can install on all the macs you own. Here is what apple told me

""My name is Terry. I understand that you are wondering if you can get Lion for all of your computers. I would be more than happy to answer this question for you.

You can download Lion again for any computer as long as you are signed into your account free of charge."

Yay for you and it only costs 50 bucks :)

You are correct I need to be 100% as the servers are in a third world country.

Most of the testing will be done at home and then buy the stuff for the office and put it in place. As most business owners know well when you start up a business you need to save a few dollars here and there to insure its going to do what you need to do.

If I understand your question, and the Mac app store agreement, you can install lion and lion server on up to 5 macs with a single purchase. Just open up the app store and go to purchases and download again. Don't have to repurchase until you reach the limit.

Here are the actual terms. I'm not sure how "use" is defined in regards to a server OS; does connecting as a client make you a user?

If you are a commercial enterprise or educational institution, to download, install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software for use either: (a) by a single individual on each of the Mac Computer(s) that you own or control, or (b) by multiple individuals on a single shared Mac Computer that you own or control. For example, a single employee may use the Apple Software on both the employee’s desktop Mac Computer and laptop Mac Computer, or multiple students may serially use the Apple Software on a single Mac Computer located at a resource center or library.
