With all the wild guesses around for Lion's release date, someone is bound to get it right by accident. Could be anytime. I expect Apple to at least announce the release date 1-2 weeks in advance. I'm thinking mid July, i.e. in about two weeks.

I agree about the guessing part, there are only so many days in the month. Not so sure about the 1-2 weeks notice though, with a all-digital distribution Apple could cut down on the notice a fair bit.

unless they release in on a weekend then there are only 20 days left

take out the US holiday that then leaves 19 days left:eek:

they are unlikely to release on fridays so there are 4 left , that then leaves 15 days

which is just over a fortnight so not long at all

I remember that Snow Leopard wasn't even released in the month they announced, but the one before.

Final Cut pro X, however, was released at the end of the month.

There's nothing too notable about Apple releases: I think that they don't know either, they will delay it if they find an unexpected bug, and they have a "security window" to allow for such delays, but the bugs might be bigger than expected, too, and might take longer to fix than they expect.

I also think that they won't care about minor bugs here, as we know, .0 releases are full of bugs and Apple even knows about them.

So yeah, all I can say is we don't and can't know just from past releases. Could be anytime now!

Releasing Lion before the financial results on the 19th would allow Apple to get some sales figures in there.

Also IIRC, Apple never released the GM build of Leopard until the day it was released to consumers. But Apple being Apple, who knows what'll happen.

Lion 10.7 - July ??? 2011

My guess would be at the end of the month, some time around the 24th.

But I wish they'd just release it today because I'm literally bouncing off the walls with excitement. I'm refreshing MacRumours home page and the AppStore every 5 seconds... COME ON APPLE!

Given the last three releases have been on a Friday, I'd say either the 22nd or the 29th of this month. If I was pushed, I'd go for the 29th, partly because it tends to fit with previous releases and also because it gives more time to finalise a stable build and get it imaged onto the Macs waiting to go out to stores.

Given history, they are more likely to release on a Friday than not. Still 19 days possible...

A lot of people are saying July 6th now, I really hope that is the case..
