Hi everyone. First time posting in the thread.

I currently have an older MacBook Pro running Lion, and plan on purchasing a new iMac after the rumored spec bump with the release of ML. The machine will obviously be shipping with Mountain Lion, and I'll need to get my data onto it with a time machine backup of my MBP.

My question is, will this work, my most recent MBP backup being Lion and copying the files to a Mountain Lion machine? Does it do system stuff, or just documents and data?

Thanks!

A Lion Time Machine backup to ML will be absolutely okay. When setting up the iMac, ML will ask if you would like to due a Time Machine restore.

Can installed application be restored as well or just personal documents including media files?
In addition, I am wondering if there is any difference between restoring from Recovery and from Migration Assistant.

Thanks.
