Several years ago I purchased language lessons on CDs. It was more convenient to listen to the lessons on my iPod (Classic) versus from CD, so I ripped the material and on an old computer that I don't currently use, put the material in iTunes and synced them to my iPod.

Now I want to listen to them again, but with my iPhone X because of bluetooth. I used the Senuti app to copy the tracks from my iPod into files on my MacBook Air. To test, I created an new playlist in iTunes on the MacBook Air and imported 2 lessons from my MacBook file system into the new playlist on the MacBook iTunes. There were icons next to the lessons indicating they were not iCloud eligible.

I connected my iPhone X to the MacBook and created an empty playlist. I tried to move the lessons from the MacBook playlist to the playlist on my iPhone but could not because the iPhone uses iCloud to store playlists. I was going to turn off that switch temporarily on the iPhone to get the tracks on the iPhone, but was advised I would lose all my iCloud songs on my iPhone - so I did not do that.

So my question - is there a way to mix non-iCloud and iCloud playlists in the iPhone? Or some other way to be able to do this?

-------

Second question - Is there an app that will allow me to play tracks with finer grain controls that I had on the iPod? Specifically, I could back up a few seconds to repeat a part. Would like to be able to do that when listening on the iPhone.

Thanks in advance.

John

Turn off iCloud music library, sync with iTunes, then re-enable iCloud music library. You won’t loose what’s already on your phone.

Thanks for the info. I found that the only way I could add more of the material to the playlist on the laptop was to uncheck iCloud Music Library. I also switched off same on iPhone and copied the playlists from the laptop to the iPhone in iTunes.

The material transferred fine to the iPhone but problems on both laptop and iPhone:

Laptop: If I rechecked iCloud Music Library then clicked ok to dismiss window, opening window again showed it was again unchecked. Also no music from iCloud on laptop. Only after deleting the non-iCloud material from the laptop would rechecking iCloud Music Library stay checked and music from iCloud downloaded. (High Sierra 10.13.2)

iPhone: Upon rechecking iCloud Music Library - the music returned but the non-iCloud playlists disappeared. (Ver 11.2)

Not sure about the laptop. Are you using the current version of iTunes? I’ve been able to add music to iTunes. I’m using iTunes for PC.

Yup. Everything current. I've heard of Apple making changes from version to version. I think to keep things clean I will get a separate player and not mix iCloud. Thanks again for your help.
