I am always listening to a Podcast show which is not on any podcast apps including Apple Podcast.
So when I am listening to this podcast on the YT app, is there a a way to make it play in the background while opening other apps like Safari so I can surf the web while listening to the YT podcast video?

I dont use the YouTube app, so I’m not sure…but you can use the YouTube website for that very thing.

Yes, then you'd have to split-screen the browser that has a youtube tab and another app of your choice
The OP stated they were surfing the web, so I figured they were already using safari. But if not, then you can use something like PIPifier to PIP youtube and brush it off the screen, using the YouTube website anyway. Then you can open whatever apps you like and close safari.

*EDIT* Actually i just tested it, youtube still plays sound when safari is backgrounded and other apps are in use, regardless of PIP.

It only plays in Background when you bought YouTube premium (or use the free trial month).

That’s not true. Never paid or even logged in. Not a fan of Google stuff. Works as I explained, as far as I have tested anyway. I mean- it’s easy to test. Have you not done that?

It does not work. Simple as that. If you don't pay and don't have a jailbreak, the system interrupts the stream once Safari or the Youtube app is send into background.

With every respect, I use it like this constantly since I realised it was possible the other day. Do you? The thing is is that my iPad is not jailbroken and I have never paid for you tube or even logged in to you tube.
It does work, and to quote you- it’s as simple as that.

*Edit* this is in the iOS 14 thread I just realised. I’m on 15, and I’m taking about the iPadOS. My bad for spreading misinformation if it doesn’t work like this on ios14 and/or on the iPhone.

Wrong. I don’t have a Premium account and am not from the US. Yet I use YT PIP and background playback since it’s possible. Which has been a long time. Just play a video, close Safari (you need to use the website in Safari (preferable the desktop site with a 250% zoom 👌)), Open Control Center and press play. Sometimes it doesn’t work properly so you’d have to reload the site, Restart Safari or close Music/Spotify etc.

It should work in iOS 14. I know it did at least until the day I downloaded the first iOS 15 beta…
