Little Advice Please?

I bought a 20" aluminum imac last week. I also have a MacBook. I am taking my Imac back tomorrow due to display problems. My wife suggested I get the 24". I have never had a monitor or anything larger than a 20". I am a bit nervous about the immensity of the 24" Is it too much? Do you get use to it. By this time tomorrow I'll have another 20 or 24???? Any advice would be appreciated.

Well, I had the same question as you. I originally ordered the 20", as I had never used anything bigger than 19". I finally got talked into a 24".

So...if you stick around this forum too long, you'll eventually get talked into a 24" as well!

That depends on your needs really. What are you going to do with it?
You will be getting a better quality screen with the 24", it's not just larger.

You will think that the 24" is huge when you first put it on your desk. But after a while, it will shrink
The bad thing about going with a larger display is that a smaller display will look so tiny, and you will never want to go back to something smaller.

If you have the money and desk space and spend quite a lot of time in front of your computer, I'd recommend going with the 24".

I too, recommend getting the 24". I use a 30" Flat Panel at work. It took me a few days to get used to it and learn how to use the extra space. I wouldn't want to revert to a 20" now (which I had prior to the 30"). Based on user reports, the 24" has a much better screen then the 20".

If you do get a 24" it will be hard for you to use a 20" later on. I have the 23" ACD at home, and can not stand my 19" at work.

That's what I thought. I hope it turns out to be a good machine out of the box. Seems I've been driving back and forth to the Apple Store exchanging computers the last few months.

I found the 24" to be massive when I looked at it in the store. Great screen!

Well in a few hours I'll know as it will be on my desk by noon. Thanks for the input.

First, from experience if your spouse tells you to go out and get a bigger better xxxxx then you go do it! Don't wait for her to change her mind.
I started on a 15" monitor, then 17", then 19", then 21". Those were CRTs. Then I bought a 20" LCD wide and moved to a 30". My guess is the move from 20-24 will seem like nothing in a matter of weeks.

Hope I can help, but I was in exactly the same position as you. I was all geared up for a 20 incher; I really thought the 24 was overkill, especially after seeing the size of the chunky white 24 inch imacs in the previous generation!

However, as soon as I found that the screen in the 20 inch was inferior to the 24 inch in quality, this really got me questioning the 20 inch. I checked out the 24 inch regarding the size, and although big, it is certainly not ridiculous in size compared to its predecessor, and it is slightly smaller in dimensions too.

However, what really swung it for me was the quality of the screen. I do a lot of graphics work, and as I have a lot of people looking around my screen at photos, logos, video etc, the restricted viewing angle on the 20 inch, compared to the 24 really wasn't worth connsidering in the end. The 24 inch for me is the only way to go. I think you'll always regret getting the 20 inch over the 24....I know I would.

Last time I had someone nervous about something being too big was... well... uhm... nvm.

But seriously... it's gorgeous, you'll adore it, get the 24".

You are so right. My wife just left for the Apple Store returning the 20" and getting a 24". Not sure how pleased she is about it but I had to stay home to meet some people. She tells me my only vice is Apple Computers so she can put up with it. I did tell her today I was considering going back to Sony computers as I have had a rash of bad Apples and have had to return quite a few. Seems in the days of PPC I never found myself returning them.

I almost knew the answer to my question about the 20 vs 24 before I posted it but its nice to see what everyone says.

I expect to have the 24 by noon today hopefully nothing wrong with it including dead or stuck pixels. Had 4 on the previous 20". Also, seemed like there might be something under the glass like dust but couldn't be sure.

Will post more when I get the new 24'

I agree. She said ok to it. She loves apples and has a MacBook but she stays with a computer forever. She can't see any reason to ever get rid of a computer that works fine. Me, its all about latest and greatest and trying to convince myself why I need it
