So I downloaded a sports app just because it now supports Live Activity and it's cool, but only if you're not listening to music in the background.

This is cool:

But what's the point of this?

You still have to open the app to see the score, or long press the Dynamic Island (as opposed to a quick press - absolutely idiotic UI choice by Apple).

Seems to kind of defeat the purpose. 🤔

Lol. You can freely blame Apple on that one. They really should’ve used long press to open the app instead of single tap. Who knows why they think that way.
And DI as-is gives me Touch Bar and 3D touch vibe, but worse than both of them. Sadly, other people will copy it in a worse way.

Long pressing to open the app would be dumb and unnatural and it never ever worked like this in any comparable situation on any Apple OS.

3D Touch was great. Apple should have never gotten rid of it.

What does the press have to do with this situation? The way it looks with two apps running in the island is the issue.

I’m commenting specifically on the “you need to long press yadayada idiotic design” part.

I hope they fix this OP, that looks absolutely awful.
Agreed. It doesn't just look awful, it's literally pointless ... I mean, at the very least, they could shrink the team logos and put the score in a tiny font underneath. It might be hard to see, but it would certainly be better than NOTHING AT ALL. lol

And yet every single reviewer on YouTube (at least, all of the ones I watched) specifically mentioned that the two press types (long vs quick) need to be reversed, for the Dynamic Island. What's the point of having information displayed while other apps are open, if a quick tap takes you out of the app you're in, and back to the app displayed in the DI? It's absurd, jarring, and unintuitive. If the Dynamic Island is meant to be a place to display information from background(ed) apps, then tapping on it should allow a quick interaction with those apps, rather than taking you into them. They're in the background for a reason, and more often than not, you simply want to interact with them in some superficial way (changing tracks, or checking the time remaining in the game) rather than opening the apps back up, completely.

Judging from your comment, I'm assuming you haven't actually tried using DI on an iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max ... ? Ah, nevermind. Looking at your post history, it seems you just enjoy posting argumentative posts in general. 😂 I guess I took the bait! lol ... I blame the Johnny Walker Black. 🤣

Hoping it is provided as an option at least. Not great implementation, but hey its only a month old

Old thread—I know—but you can just swipe left on the island to dismiss the album art and expand the score into the “single activity” version of the island.
