I have a live photo from a car that hit and ran my mom's car this afternoon and fled the scene

The license plate number is hard to read. Are there any photo gurus out there that can deduce what the license plate is?

Many thanks!

Sorry to hear your mom's car was hit, and I hope she is ok. Is it possible to give the format of the plate, i.e., the default non-vanity format for that state?

Thanks, she is but just shaken up and bewildered at why they fled after hitting her

Its a colorado plate (green sky, white mtn).

Was a police report filed? If so, did the police attempt to locate any cameras in the immediate area that would provide a view of the driver and license plate?

The first 3 letters appear to be CGN.

Other than trying the usual sharpen tricks, I'm unable to help with the plate. Have you or your mother shown this photo to law enforcement?

Thanks Robert. My understanding is one is being filed. My mom sent these photos in the meantime.

Make sure that mom follows up with the detective. Even if there are no state cameras at that intersection, there may be a third party camera from a business or house. The police could also look for a camera farther down the road where the perp turned.

Looks to be a female driver with auburn hair.

I believe if you save the live photo as video using the share menu, you may be able to upload it using the Insert Video option under the post's more menu.

We need to CSI this mofo

ENHANCE!

:p

also... can the DMV be any help? The 2016–2020 Chevy Cruze sedan wasn't a very popular car. I'd reckon there can only be a handful in any given area.

If it was a Toyota Corolla... it'd be a different story.

The forum software is probably scaling it down - both image and video. Try zipping it and uploading it. That will preserve the full resolution.

Glad to see you have 18k posts... so - well, are less likely to in fact have us all trying to figure out something that may in fact be, oh - say, tracking down someone who owes you money... ;)

I’m afraid ‘zoom enhance’ is only a thing of fiction. Photoshop (and other software) has an AI enhancement but this is a best guess rather than revealing unseen information.

Your best bet is to pick up any identifying marks on the car and look for other local cameras that might have picked up the number.

Tanagra (not really)
I don't think you'll get the plate from that image. The detail just isn't going to be there. Looks to me like the right rear tire might be a compact spare (aka donut), which might also explain the incidental contact.

You might canvas the local businesses yourself to see if they have cameras pointed at the road, and do it quickly--they may not keep the footage that long. You can always direct the detective to the businesses that have evidence--PDs typically have more things to investigate than time to do it, and tracking down a no-injury accident can be time consuming and not their top priority.

The downside here is that you don't have footage of this car actually doing the damage. Hopefully you can find that in your search as it will count for evidence. If they can track down the car and find damage consistent with what you describe, you might get somewhere. Who knows if they can put an alert at body shops? Hopefully you can get some justice.

it's just frustrating. Who flees an accident? I don't understand people.

Thanks for the perspective. It will most likely not result in finding the person. Just beyond aggravating when its a less than 1 year old car my mom recently purchased.
