I use maps in my daily commute and noticed live traffic info (yellow/orange/red lanes) are not visible during navigation. In map view all local traffic is marked and in navigation mode the ETA is accurate and reported incidents are announced, but the the drive path coloring does not show heavy traffic anymore.

Am I the only one?

Thanks

I noticed the same when I was stuck in traffic two days ago.
My city map received a major update (Montreal) last week and I was wondering if it could be linked to this update.

This, for some ridiculous decision by Apple I can only assume, happened a few releases ago.

I don’t remember the last time I had traffic marked on my route but it might have been before the crapfest that is iOS 15 back in September.

Edit: Or maybe it disappeared when they introduced the new mapping system which I think was with the release of 15?

I am in the Bay Area and until two weeks ago I had no issues. Then this new maps rolled out further than SFO city only OR the 15.4.1 made it disappear. I don’t know. I just find the new maps distracting in high dense areas during navigation. I prefer simple maps … with traffic info so I can make decisions early.

I thought I was losing my mind. I noticed the traffic colors missing but couldn't pinpoint it for a few days. Once it dawned on me what was missing...why??

I’m wondering if it’s a safety thing. They don’t want drivers focused on traffic color lines but instead to rely more on the verbal announcements. I don’t agree with it but if it was done intentionally, that’s the only thing I can think of. Probably the reason why you can still see them in regular maps view when not navigating, for planning purposes.

I cannot see that. Traffic monitoring and predictions is the big battleground for map application superiority. Taking this out would be a death sentence for Apple Maps.

BTW, my iPad is not running the new maps and correctly display traffic conditions in navigation mode. Both are on the same software, so it is good to assume the new maps made being the culprit

Working for me - iOS 15.3.1 iPhone 13 Pro:

Yes, you can see it on the map, but it no longer shows when you're actually on the road driving.
I am still seeing it too. 13 Pro Max on iOS 15.4.1.

This was screenshotted while plugged in an actively navigating via CarPlay.

So is this a regional issue then? I'm only seeing the traffic when I look at larger metropolitan areas. Even then, it looks like it's just mainly the interstates and not other major roads. My city (population of nearly 200,000) shows almost nothing now...just a few randomly scattered orange lines for a block or so. I know there is construction in some areas and traffic jams, especially during rush hour. I would expect to see some long red lines, which show up as expected in Google Maps.

I’m in the Baltimore region and there is no live traffic while using navigation. They do appear in plain map view. Neither my iPad nor my phone show them when starting a route. But both show them when not using navigation. Both devices are on 15.4.1. Perhaps it is regional, Apple frequently tweaks Maps behind the scenes independent of ios releases but this tweak is a big step back, for my region anyway.

Just this afternoon my wife and I tested this. I set a route on my phone and proceeded according to directions while my wife launched Maps on her phone following along, but no navigation. The red and yellow sections appeared on her phone but never on mine.

No issues on my iPhone 13 Pro, 15.4.1. in Los Angeles and the surrounding cities/suburbs. Is routing and traffic turned on under location services -< system services? No idea if that affects it but might worth checking.

Everything is enabled on my end. My wife’s phone behaves the same. She just hadn’t noticed and to be honest I hadn’t either till I saw this thread. Normally I’m just listening to the directions and checking the next course change arrows at the top of the screen rather than focusing on the map itself. I use the phone by itself, no CarPlay connection, most of the time. Obviously going by this thread this is not isolated.

Also checking, there’s only the selection of map type that governs traffic display. Driving does, and is indicated on the thumbnail. As long as that map is selected there’s nothing else to do. No other settings for traffic exists other than System Services and that toggle has been on forever.

I've had no issues with this, my commute into work is normally a sea of delays when i get into the city where i'm based and it shows them all fine. It also showed me that getting out of my home town was going to be fun this morning as the major route out was red lines in all directions due to a crash on a roundabout in the town centre which is the main way out to the motorway.

This morning my selected route showed the appropriate traffic indications. Everything worked as expected. So I don’t know what was going on previously, maybe I hallucinated the whole thing. The only thing I did was toggle the Routing and Traffic toggle in Location/System settings. I doubt that actually did anything but all good right now.

Been using CarPlay every workday for the past 4+ months. Mine's always showed traffic (even as of those morning too).

Region - Pennsylvania, USA

Is it supposed to show all colored traffic lines or only whatever is on your route? I’m only seeing whatever is along my route. NYC area.

It will only show your route traffic indicators if you have navigation active. If just in map view it will show traffic in any area you have the screen positioned.
