Hello,

This is for a halloween costume, as you may have guessed... Is there a way that anyone can think of to get a live video sync from an iPhone camera to an iPad screen... and vice-versa at the same time. It is an iPhone 3G and an iPad 2. The idea is to place one in the front and one in the back so it looks like there is a hole/window through someone.

Thanks!

ok this isn't exactly what you want, and you will need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network for it to work.

on your iPhone, download the free app Mini Webcam

once you start this app, you select a video quality, and press start, your iPhone will then start broadcasting its camera image over the Wi-Fi network and will display its IP address

on your iPad, you can either find a Webcam streaming app that allows you to input IPs of cameras, or simply open up safari* and type in the IP

(*note - the image will not fill the screen straight away, and pinch to zoom will not work, what you need to do is press the X in the address bar, then use pinch to zoom, to fill the screen, and then refresh the page, it will now stay this size)

Unfortunately, this app cannot broadcast from the background and as such can only go from one device to the other, not back again, but its the best i can offer.

EDIT: i just opened the app on my iPhone and noticed Mini Webcam also ables you to view a camera broadcasting from another device, but i can't test this as i have an iPad 1 and so the app won't download as it has no camera, but you could potentially just get the app on both devices and stream from one using the app, and receive through the app on the other, but like i said, i don't how well this works. you still can only go one way though, but thats better than nothing right?

EDIT 2: or yes, you could use FaceTime - having an iPad 1 i completely forgot about this obvious way of doing things

I realize this is an older thread, but I just wanted to say 'thanks!' for the FaceTime idea.

I wanted a network camera so I could watch my cat when he goes out on the deck and let him back in the house when he was ready. I was researching different options, and none of them were ideal (required plug-in power, ethernet connection, etc).

FaceTime actually ends up being a perfect solution. I can start a FaceTime call when I let my cat outside and monitor him until it's time to come back in. So fun!
