My 2G iPhone lost wifi connection over the course of a day over a month ago. Since then its only seen a few networks and only for brief periods. I have yet to try putting it in the fridge but have read enough different threads suggesting it to know that is literally the only solution available to me, and that its not a permanent fix.
My iPhone was bought by a friend of mine about 2 weeks before the 16 gig came out, so its about 18 months old and out of warranty. It also has an enormous crack across the screen. There is no way Apple are gonna replace it for me and they're apparently not acknowledging the problem. 3.0 is just about the only hope that I have to get internet working on my phone again and something tells me with all the myriad new features apple have been so busy testing, they won't have bothered to fix this problem (who knows if it can even be fixed?). I just moved into a basement flat where my phonecalls break up and my connection alternates between 2g and none with a dash of edge every now and then and my phone has become pretty f£%$ing useless considering I take my 160gig iPod with me most places anyways.
It seems like this affects tons of ppl, but most of those will be within warranty and so it won't be an issue for them. As a longterm apple user who always gets annoyed with morons who throw their ipods around like they don't contain a HD and and attribute their failure to some 13-month-lifespan conspiracy, I am pretty annoyed to learn that apple are silent on this despite what seems like tons of affected ppl, not all of whom will still be under warranty.
