I have my appleTV hooked to desktop via ethernet. If I have been away from the appleTV for a while, it defaults to the "appleTV" (synced) library. So, when I change sources to my desktop library it can take several minutes to "load". Any ideas why it takes so long? Or any way to keep it from defaulting to appleTV library? Thanks...

You can only sync with one iTunes library at any time. Each time you change sources :apple:TV erases and resyncs. Hence the delay you experience. You select which computer you want to sync to from the sources menu in :apple:TV . Its best to choice one library for syncing.

You can stream music from multiple computers to your :apple:TV but none of it is written to the :apple:TV hard drive.

I don't understand what the "appletv library" is? Are you trying to sync two computers to your :apple:TV? Do you have multiple iTunes libraries?

Ever since the 1.1 update, the Apple TV can stream photos...I have about 4,000 photos now, and the more I add, the longer it takes to load. My parents have an Apple TV as well, and they have about 10,000 photos, and theirs takes much longer than mine. It seems to be an issue with the amount of photos since it used to take seconds to load the stream library before the 1.1 update.

I guess I wasn't clear. For instance... Last night I was using my streaming libary named "my name's library". This is the library I stream movies, etc from on my iMac. It is the only streaming library I use. THis morning, when I turned the TV back on, it defaulted to "AppleTV" which is the synced library on the appleTV hard drive. (The synced items are from the same itunes library on the iMac.) Now, when I go to "sources" on the ATV and ask it to open "my name's library", which should be the streaming source, it can take several minutes for it to load.

I don't seem to have any trouble with syncing. I don't want to sync everything on the atv, however, due to limited space on it's hard drive.

Again, I use an ethernet connection between the ATV and my iMac.

Is that a little more understandable?

HMMM... I wonder if that is it. It is trying to get all those photo's cued up, maybe? Is there a way to turn off photo streaming?

as far as I know you can only turn off photo streaming on libraries that are Strem only, ie. Not the library that you sync with.

I get the same thing, but I have no photos set to share.

I think it has to do merely with library size... for instance, my AppleTV has to load a roughly 11mb library file in order to be able to navigate through the menus without lag. The more music/movies/TV shows you have, the larger the library file, in general. Load up a library with only a few albums and shows and it's nearly instantaneous.

You may be facing bandwidth limits. Do you need to have every photo in you library available? If you reduce the number of albums that are available to the appletv it would speed up the streaming process.
